Units

Dan Foulder explains why units are important in biology and how to use them

Units are important in biology. Without units, numerical values are often meaningless, and leaving the units out of your answers will cost you marks in the exam.

You should ensure that you use appropriate units across all calculations and data handling exercises. It is vital that you can convert between different units. You also need to be able to work out (derive) appropriate units in certain situations — for example, when calculating the rate of an enzyme-catalysed reaction.
