Exam tips

After 15 years and over 60 Upgrade columns this is my last one and it is a little different. This column will be published just before you start your AS or A-level examinations. It is a miscellany of hints — something to browse through when you have a few minutes to spare

What is the best way to revise? This is an impossible question to answer. Some people work best late at night; others like to get up early in the morning. Some like silence; others prefer background music. The best advice that can be given about revision is ‘revise in the way that suits you best’. There are, however, a number of general points you should consider.

It is worth having a revision plan and a timetable. Get the coloured pencils out and make a decent job of it. You will be taking more than one subject, so make sure the balance is right. Build in the things that matter. If your birthday is coming up, allow time for the celebrations. Take Friday evenings off. It is important to be realistic rather than idealistic.
