What makes you different from your friends? Why do you look and behave as you do? Everything about you is a product of your genes, your environment or some combination of the two. But which bits of you, if any, are inherited entirely genetically?

If you look at the other students in your class, you’ll notice that they all look different. Your classmates may be taller or shorter than you, perhaps heavier or lighter, and will differ in obvious characteristics, such as eye colour, skin tone or natural hair colour. Why should this be?
