With 129,794 solicitors and 15,387 barristers each holding practising certificates in England and Wales, the two main branches of the profession provide a home for the vast majority of lawyers. It is also the case, however, that not everyone who completes the LL.B (known as the academic stage) wishes to pursue a career as a lawyer.
