Why the EPQ is useful for law students

Fay Wray explains what the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is, the skills it develops and how best to go about it

INGRAM

This article focuses on the AQA specification, but both OCR and Edexcel offer a similar qualification.

The EPQ is a Level 3 programme of study, equivalent to half an A-level, which is taken by many students as part of a school or college enrichment programme. The EPQ is increasingly valued by universities as it provides a great opportunity to develop independent study skills that are essential to success in higher education. The EPQ gives students the autonomy to explore and carry out research on an issue of personal interest, which, due to the confines of the specifications, is not possible with most A-levels.
