While answering (and understanding how to answer) each of the questions in an A-level law exam is important, it is particularly important to prepare thoroughly for the 30-mark questions. Why? Well, firstly, these are the highest-value questions in exams, and secondly, there will be two of them. It does not take a skilled mathematician to work out that these two questions alone are worth 60% of the overall mark on each paper. Therefore, doing well on these two questions is key to achieving a high overall grade.
In addition to the obvious maths, these two questions are often the most challenging — they require you to not only identify the issues for discussion but also provide a comprehensive legal analysis of the issues presented. Key to success in your exams is understanding how to approach these questions. Two 30-mark questions appear in each of the AQA exams, and while the substantive nature of the topics will vary according to each paper, there are some general strategies that you can use to approach these questions.
