R v Muhammed (2021)

Here, the defendant (D) was in his car with his wife and two children when he began racing another car on the M62 motorway. They reached speeds of over 100 mph while ‘competitive racing’, often being extremely close to each other. D refused to move out of the outside lane to let another driver past. An unroadworthy tyre blew out on D’s car and he was unable to control his 16-year-old Honda Civic and went over an embankment. The impact killed his 3-year-old son and severely injured his wife and daughter.
