This article is relevant to AQA A-Level 3.1 (English legal system) and OCR A-level Section A: the legal system (civil courts and other forms of dispute resolution).

Last year saw the government introduce legislation into Parliament that would have paved the way for a system of online courts in certain criminal matters. The Prisons and Courts Bill 2017 was to establish the government’s agenda to move some low-level cases, such fare dodging on trains or public transport, to an online judicial website. An estimated £1 billion was to be invested by the government to digitise the courts.
