This article is relevant to AQA A-level 3.1 (criminal courts) and OCR A-level Unit 1 (criminal law).

All criminal cases will first appear at the Magistrates’ Court, however only the most minor of offences will be resolved at the first hearing. The aim of this hearing is to establish some key facts, which will determine the court where the trial will take place.
