The Suicide Act 1961 makes it unlawful to perform an act ‘capable of encouraging or assisting the suicide or attempted suicide of another person’. However, there have never been any prosecutions of family members who have travelled abroad with Britons who intend to end their lives. This raises questions over the conditions under which prosecutions would take place, or whether there should be any at all.
