Answering problem-solving questions on s.47 ABH

Following on from Sally Russell’s article, Ian Yule helps you avoid common mistakes on ABH questions

This ‘Examination focus’ is relevant to AQA Law 02 and Law 03, and OCR A2 Unit G153.

Over the last 20 years or so that I have been an examiner, I have been both concerned and frustrated by the large number of answers to s.47 ABH questions that I have only been able to annotate as ‘Some’ rather than ‘Sound’. This means that in an 8-mark question only 3 or 4 marks are being awarded.
