Preddy and Another v Bull and Another (2014)
The defendants were civil partners who booked a double room in the appellant’s hotel by telephone. The couple had therefore not seen the hotel’s online booking form, which contained the statement: ‘Please note that out of a deep regard for marriage we prefer to let double accommodation to heterosexual married couples only.’ Upon their arrival the defendants were told that they could not stay and, in consequence, brought proceedings claiming that the appellants had discriminated against them on grounds of their sexual orientation under what is now the Equality Act 2010.
